F&M tops Mount in MDCHA debut

2011-09-23
Franklin & Marshall was looking to make a good impression in the MDCHA and their journey would start hosting  one of the veterans of the league, Mount Saint Mary’s.  In this game, there would be no shortage of offense.

Mount would start the game very strong as a few minutes in; Brandon Nahill would score his first of three goals on the night.  Just past the midway point of the first, the Mount would strike again on a shot from John Romano.  However, beginning minutes later it would start to become the William Kempner show for Franklin & Marshall as he would score his first of six goals in the game on his way to an eight point night.  Kempner’s goal pulled F&M within one goal, but the Mount’s Nahill would drop in his second of the game to reclaim the two goal lead.  But Kempner was not done in the first as he struck twice more before heading in to intermission, tying the game at three.
The second period saw much of the same offensive explosion for both teams as they put in a combined 8 goals in the second period.  Mount tallied three time from Romano, Ian Shultz, and Nahill finished his hat trick.  While F&M netted five goals off the sticks of Kempner (3), Evan Jones, and Conor McGovern.  This gave F&M a nice 8-6 lead.  However, the way this game was going, two goals would not be enough.
The final frame was another scoring battle, but it was F&M who began to pull away as they netted the first four goals of the final frame.  Goals came from Max O’Connor, McGovern, Jones, and Ben Feldberg.  Mount would throw one last ditch effort at the Diplomats scoring two goals in the final three minutes, but it would not be enough as F&M ended up winning the game by a commanding score of 12-8.

F&M looks to keep that offense rolling as they travel across the Susquehanna river to face off against Gettysburg College.  The Mount will look to get back on track as they host their home opener against Wesley College.
