It had been a while since the Mount had been in MDCHA action due to a rescheduling with divisional rival Hopkins, so they were eager to get back to it. Gettysburg had also not been on the ice for some time due to a forfeit two weeks earlier against Dickinson. But it was the Mount that seemed more eager as the game got started.
With the first drop of the puck Mount’s Brendan Nahill began his multiple point night by scoring on the very first shot of the game 20 seconds in. On that same shift, Mount’s Allen Hofstetter would score on the next shot taken. Less than two minutes later the Mount was awarded a powerplay and Tyler Anderson buried a shot to give a commanding three goal lead. The Mount was not done as they would net two more goals before the end of the period off the sticks of John Romano and Nahill once again.
By the end of the night Nahill and Romano combined for a staggering 15 points. In the second period, they continued to pour it on with goals from Hofstetter, Romano and Nahill again. Gettysburg was finally able to generate some offense, scoring three goals late in the period, but they found themselves in a crushing 8-4 hole.
The Mount did not let up in the third as Romano, Sean Gunn, Matthew Hohn, and Kevin Franco all netted goals on their way to a commanding 12-6 win.
Gettysburg really needs to turn things around if they hope to make a push for the playoffs next week as they travel to Johns Hopkins. The Mount is starting their push with their first win and hopes to keep it going as they travel to Delaware to take on Wesley.
