Dickinson stays perfect with win against PSU Hbg

2011-11-5

Because of Gettysburg’s forfeit and the strange snow that came in October, Dickinson hadn’t been on the ice against MDCHA teams in a month.  But you would not be able to tell as the game got started against Penn State Harrisburg.

Dickinson looked eager to get back to play and late in the first period Dickinson found themselves on a powerplay.  They wasted little time as Dickinson’s Davis Brown would net the first goal of the night.  Minutes later Dickinson was on the powerplay again and this time Charles Goldburg buried one for the Red Devils. It looked like Dickinson would take a two goal lead in to the locker room, but with less than a minute remaining Penn State was awarded a powerplay and Guy Lewis Jr. scored with only 3 ticks left in the first pulling within one goal.

The next goal in this game would be crucial and Dickinson was determined to get it.  In fact, Greg Goldman took it upon himself to score not one, but the next two goals for Dickinson, giving them a nice three goal lead.  However, a minute after Goldman’s second goal, Penn State was once again on the powerplay and Michael Van Horn cut the Red Devil lead to only two.  Not to be deterred, Dickinson came flying back with a goal of their own minutes later off the stick of Alexander Gitlin.  But before the end of the period Penn State Harrisburg would not go away and scored an even strength goal from Stefan Eshleman and Penn State would head in to the final frame only down by two goals.

Both teams played aggressive in the third but no one would give an inch.  Time was running out for the Nittany Lions but with just over two minutes left, they were awarded a powerplay and their successful powerplay continued as Lewis, Jr. once again netted a goal pulling within one goal late in the game.  They threw everything at Dickinson in the final minute but Goldburg put the final nail in the coffin scoring a goal with 56 seconds left and giving Dickinson the 6-4 win.
