The Mount was hoping to get back on track and in to the playoff hunt as the games wind down and they only had one win to show for it. Standing in their way this night was Johns Hopkins who was having a great year in the early going.
The Mount came out quickly and jumped to an early lead as Mason Dixon leading scorer John Romano netted his first goal of the night. Hopkins looked to even things up midway through the period with a powerplay, but Mount’s Jason Barone had other plans as he received an outlet pass and scored a short-handed goal extending Mount’s lead to two goals. This is the point that Hopkins started to get their juices flowing as minutes later Hesan Nekoorouy-Motlagh netted his first goal of the season. With time winding down in the first, Hopkins was awarded another powerplay and did not want a repeat of the other powerplay, and leading scorer for Hopkins, Wyatt Roscoe was able to slip one past the Mount netminder to tie the game heading in to the second period.
The second period was almost a mirror image of the first period. The Mount came out flying early in the period and netted the first two goals, both off the stick of Ian Shultz. But then again Hopkins came storming back late in the period with two goals of their own from Albie Feeny and Louis Ricci. The deciding factor would be who could out score who in the third.
Mount was determined to be the one to out score Hopkins as off the first shift Sean Gunn ripped one in the back of the net to give the Mount the lead once again. Less than two minutes later, Kevin Franco got on the board and gave the Mount a two goal lead. Off the ensuing faceoff, Ian Shultz completed his hat trick and now gave Mount a comfortable three goal lead. Just past the midway point of the period, Hopkins was hoping to make a push as they were awarded a powerplay. But Romano thwarted that effort with another short-handed goal now giving them a commanding four goal lead. Hopkins would add one more goal late as Roscoe got his second of the game, but it was too little too late and the Mount would win their second MDCHA game of the year.
Hopkins now has a chance to take a break and regroup as they had in to their Winter break, where as Mount will be back in action one more time before their break against American.
