American back in to it with win over Hopkins

2011-11-18

American did not jump out to a great start this season dropping their first two games.  However, you could sense things turning around for them with their last win against Hopkins two weeks ago.  They were on the ice again now hosting this same Hopkins teams and hoped to keep things going.

The game started timid with both teams playing hard defensively.  It looked as if there would be a scoreless first period, but with only 18 seconds left on the clock, American’s super star forward, Shay Longtain, sped past the defense and scored to give American the 1-0 lead.

Longtain almost picked up exactly where he stopped in the first period as off the opening faceoff he took the puck and scored his second of the game giving the 2-0 cushion in favor of American.  The defensive play continued for both teams and it wasn’t until late in the second when Josh Dorfman added his contribution and gave American a nice 3-0 lead heading in to the final period.

Hopkins needed to come out of the final period with intensity and they did just that as Alex Horn finally got Hopkins on the board with a goal and closed the gap to 3-1.  But that would be all the offense they could muster.  American’s Toby Mues added one final nail in the coffin late in the period and American went on to win 4-1.

American now faces the tough task of taking on undefeated Dickinson College, while Hopkins looks to bounce back against Mount in a post-Thanksgiving game.
