After a devastating loss to Wesley, Franklin & Marshall was hoping to get back to their game with a win. However, standing in their way was undefeated Dickinson.
Despite having half of the bench that Dickinson had, F&M came out hard. They killed off an early penalty and then got back to it. Midway through F&M got a powerplay of their own, and Conor McGovern and scored taking the early lead. But before the period would end, Dickinson’s Charles Goldburg scored not once but twice to claim a lead for the Red Devils.
Dickinson rolled this momentum in to the second period as off the opening faceoff Dan Conant took the puck all alone and scored to give Dickinson the two goal lead. But F&M bounced right back as less than thirty seconds later, McGovern got his second of the game to cut the deficit in half. Minutes later F&M showed even more determination as they tied the game off a goal from Ryan Samuels. Powering back and hoping to regain the momentum, Dickinson went on the attack. Just past the midway point of the period, Patrick Superko was able to sneak a shot past F&M’s netminder to claim the lead once again for Dickinson. Dickinson was looking to take another lead in to the intermission, but with just under two minutes it was Samuels again who tied the game for F&M.
So it would come down to the final period and who would out last who. It seemed that Dickinson wore down the shorter F&M bench as they would control most of the play. However, late in the game F&M got a great chance after being awarded a powerplay. But it would be Dickinson’s Adam Gitlin who would steal the puck shorthanded carry it the length of the ice and score. This would prove to be the game winner as F&M took a late period and would not be able to pull their goaltender for an extra attacker as they fell 5-4 and Dickinson remained undefeated.
Now F&M hopes to get a little revenge on Gettysburg who thwarted them early in the season in a shootout. Dickinson is back in action next week with their makeup game with American University.
