Franklin & Marshall seem to be getting their money's-worth in the new league this year as for the second game in a row they have gone to a shootout. However, they would once again find themselves on the short end of stick. They would go against a Johns Hopkins team that is having one of its best seasons in years.
The game would start in Hopkins' favor as off the opening shift, Hopkins' John Murren would drive in to the zone and score the first goal of the game taking the early lead. Then both defenses would step up as the scoring ceased for the remainder of the period.
In fact most of the second period was also scoreless, as Johns Hopkins was on a late powerplay, John Bacon took it upon himself to net a goal of his own and take the two goal lead. Franklin & Marshall needed to grab some momentum and they did just that as with thirty seconds remaining, Ryan Samuels received a pass and buried the shot to pull within one goal.
The next goal in the last period would be crucial and F&M needed it to be theirs. A few minutes in on a powerplay of their own, F&M equalized the game off a goal from William Kempner. Minutes later F&M was given a great opportunity as they went on a 5 on 4 for five minutes. However, it was Hopkins who would capitalize short handed on a goal from Anthony Pergola taking the late lead. But just as the five minute penalty had expired, F&M found their stride and Kempner once again tied the game and ultimately send it in to overtime.
Franklin and Marshall did not help their chances as in the overtime period they took a penalty to go down to a 4 on 3, but Hopkins was unable to cash in and the game would head to a shootout.
Once again F&M would come up one goal short as Hopkins finished them off by winning the shootout and claiming the two points. Both teams jump right back in to action this weekend as Hopkins faces divisional rival American and F&M travels to DE to take on Wesley.
