Hopkins makes it three in a row

2011-10-21

Johns Hopkins is having a banner year already in 2011-12.  And they looked to keep it going with back to back games with Mount Saint Mary’s.  Although the Saturday game will need to be scheduled for a later date, Friday’s match up did not disappoint.
The game started timid with both teams playing cautiously.  It wasn’t until midway through the period when the Mount would finally get the game rolling on a goal from Matthew Hohn.  That would be it for the scoring as both teams’ goaltenders and defense stepped up and denied the offense any chances.

We need to fast forward all the way to midway through the second period when the Mount once again capitalized, this time off the stick of Allan Hofstetter.  Things needed to turn around for Hopkins to get them back on track.  With a few minutes remaining in the second Hopkins offense was finally able to solve the Mount netminder as they scored twice in a minute’s time tying the game at two.  Just when it looked like things had turned around for Hopkins, Mount took them down a peg and John Romano netted his first goal of the game to take a 3-2 lead in to the final period for the Mount.

Hopkins was going to have to dig down deep in order to take advantage in the final frame.  The Mount’s defense kept them at bay for most of the period until once again at the midway point, TJ Bozada would breakaway and tie the game at three.  With time winding down and overtime looking imminent,  Hopkins caught another break and this time Andrew Zhong would break away with twenty seconds remaining and the game on his stick and he buried it past the Mount goaltender, winning the game 4-3.

Hopkins looks to keep it going next week as they host newcomer Franklin & Marshall, while Mount takes a week off from conference play and looks to resume MDCHA play in two weeks against Gettysburg.  The 10/22 game between Mount and Hopkins will be scheduled for a later date.
